Suggested next steps

  • These rates are static references for planning — confirm the live quote before you send money.
  • Swap USD ↔ GBP to check the reverse direction quickly.
  • Pair with the Tip or Discount calculators when budgeting travel spend in local currency.

How the currency conversion works

  1. Store each currency as a rate versus USD (how many units equal $1).
  2. Convert your amount from the source currency into USD.
  3. Convert that USD amount into the target currency.

Example path: GBP → USD → CAD. Results update as you type, and the breakdown shows the same amount in all three supported currencies. Rule-based tips remind you that static references differ from bank quotes.

Worked example

Convert $100 USD to GBP with a reference rate of 0.78 GBP per 1 USD:

  1. 100 × 0.78 = £78.00

Reverse (GBP → USD): 78 ÷ 0.78 = $100.00.

If CAD is 1.37 per 1 USD, then $100 USD ≈ C$137.00, and £78 ≈ the CAD amount produced by routing through USD with the same table.

Methodology and notes

Rates are labeled with an “as of” reference month and are intended for education and rough budgeting. They are not a live feed and should not be used as the sole price for large transfers. All math runs in your browser with no paid FX API.

Frequently asked questions

No. This converter uses static reference rates (units per 1 USD) that we refresh periodically from public mid-market style sources. Banks, cards, and airports usually charge a spread above those references.
