Total gross pay

$1,372.00

OT rate $42.00/hr · 40.00 reg + 6.00 OT hrs

Regular pay (40.00 hrs)
$1,120.00
Overtime pay (6.00 hrs)
$252.00
Total
$1,372.00

At 1.5× (common US “time-and-a-half”), 6 OT hours lift gross to $1,372.00. Hours over 40/week were treated as OT.

Suggested next steps

  • Compare this gross with the Hourly to Salary Converter for an annualized view.
  • Confirm whether your employer uses weekly OT, daily OT, or both under local rules.
  • FLSA-style 1.5× after 40 hours/week is a common US baseline; contracts and states can differ (e.g. California daily OT).

How the overtime pay calculation works

  1. OT hourly rate = regular hourly rate × overtime multiplier
  2. Regular pay = regular hourly rate × regular hours
  3. Overtime pay = OT hourly rate × overtime hours
  4. Total gross = regular pay + overtime pay

Enter the hours you were paid at base rate and the hours paid at the premium. Presets cover 1.5× and 2×; you can also type a custom multiplier. A pie chart shows how much of the week’s gross comes from overtime.

Rule-based tips highlight heavy OT weeks and point you to the Hourly to Salary Converter for annualizing base pay.

Worked example

Rate $28/hour, 40 regular hours, 6 OT hours at 1.5×:

  1. OT rate = 28 × 1.5 = $42/hour
  2. Regular pay = 28 × 40 = $1,120
  3. Overtime pay = 42 × 6 = $252
  4. Total gross = 1,120 + 252 = $1,372
